White Rock School Museum
The White Rock Historical Society operates and maintains the White Rock School Museum, located 1/4 mile off M-25 on White Rock Road, in Sherman Township. The Society has maintained the integrity of the 1909 school and its contents. Along with many exhibits, the original books, maps, and desks are on display. Picture albums, board minutes, newspaper articles and school census records are also available to view. The museum is open during special events and upon request (see number below).

Named after a boulder in Lake Huron that was used as a landmark in the Indian Treaty of 1807, the village of White Rock was settled about 1860. Destroyed in the Great Fire of 1871, the town was soon rebuilt, including a schoolhouse. The present building was constructed in 1909. At that time twenty-five pupils attended, and the teacher was paid forty dollars a month. White Rock School continued in use until 1968. The Huron County Historical Society acquired the property in 1970 for a historical museum.
